DEVELOPMENT HISTORY OF SHANXI GLASSWARE

Ming and Qing Dynasty

There were glassware workshops started to produce glassware in Shanxi in period of Ming and Qing Dynasty. Handicrafts men were producing glass horn during winter, glass horn produces a few simple sounds and was sold as children toys.

1940 - 1950

They were producing glass lamp shade for lantern, 80% of production capacity is domestic market, 20% is Africa market.

1980 - 2000

Shanxi glassware manufacturers started to produce household glassware and started to export to other countries in 1980s. They entered a period of steady development in 1990s.

2000 - 2010

More and more manufacturers of handmade glassware moved to China and Asia after 1997 Asia Financial Crisis. Local government gave a lot of support to glassware manufacturer and they entered a period of rapid development. The annual output value reached to 350 millions.

2010 - 2018

The annual output of shanxi glassware manufacturers reached to 600 millions in 2010. 45% production capacity of handmade glassware are from Shanxi and 80% production capacity of handmade goblet are from Shanxi. Shanxi became the leading production base of glassware in China and plays a very import role in international market. 50% of production capacity is USA market and 30% of production capacity is European market.
